Job Description

Location: New York, NY Type of role: Full-time Starting date: ASAP About us Dragons Group is an independent creative agency specialised in the digital world with teams working from the US, Barcelona, Germany and the Benelux area. We bridge the real world with the digital world through creative solutions. We aren’t a huge agency where you’ll be just another cog in the machine. We are a medium sized independent creative agency that is experiencing rapid growth and is looking to hire energetic and highly motivated people. About the Role We are seeking a hands-on Art Director with a strong design background to join our creative team. This role involves supporting one of our global clients, an internationally renowned healthcare brand dedicated to women. The brand's mission is to deliver impactful medicines and solutions, fostering healthier lifestyles and making a significant difference for women, their families, and their communities. The ideal candidate is well-versed in the healthcare industry's constraints and driven by the challenge of elevating the brand to the next level, positioning it as a benchmark for innovation in design within the sector. A success in this role will be not only to establish a vision but also to guide, educate, and provide strategic upgrades to design thinking. Responsibilities Visual Direction Leadership & Vision * Define and uphold the design vision for projects, ensuring work aligns with brand guidelines, strategy, objectives and PRC requirements. * Develop and execute visual concepts across digital, print, social media and other platforms. * Develop and execute mood boards that accurately demonstrate visual direction, both to client and the team. * Ensure all creative work aligns with brand guidelines and project objectives. * Review and provide constructive feedback on design work to uphold quality standards. * Push for innovation and creative excellence while balancing feasibility and deadlines. * Stay updated on industry trends, design best practices and emerging technologies to bring fresh ideas to the team. * Own problem-solving responsibilities within the team. * Oversee or execute (depending on project relevance) all design work and client’s deck presentations, while ensuring their quality, visual narrative (if needed) and impact. Project Quality Control * Oversee concept development and execution while ensuring consistency. * Ensure and foster synergy between design and copywriting. * Set clear creative goals and expectations for each project and team member. * Determine whether a project requires direct Art Director involvement or can be delegated to the team. Provide guidance accordingly while empowering designers to take ownership where appropriate. * Identify potential risks in execution and proactively address challenges. * As the Design expert, you will need to provide your perspective and infer Project and Traffic Managers with information regarding SLAs, timing and skill assessments. The Art Director will not decide nor organize, but just limit themselves to provide their recommendations. * Ensure deliverables have followed brief and/or have been revised by a specialist if needed. * PK (editables & exports) releases will be deferred to the Design team. Team Leadership & Talent Development * Manage and mentor team, ensuring they grow creatively and professionally. * Conduct regular checkpoints to discuss workload, challenges, satisfaction and career growth. * Provide structured and clear feedback with clear actionable tasks to help designers refine their skills and approach and ensuring the best output possible. * Encourage collaboration and a problem-solving mindset within the team. * Advocate for the team’s needs and ensure they have the necessary resources. * Identify skill gaps and ensure adequacy of the team to clear objectives. * Mediate and resolve low-impact conflicts within the team, fostering a positive and productive work environment. If conflicts escalate to a mid-to-high impact level or pose risks to workflow or well-being, defer and escalate appropriately to Human Resources. * Maintain a structured backlog of the team’s development, tracking individual growth, skill gaps and potential red flags to ensure a clear record of progress and areas for improvement. * Empower team to take ownership and accountability of their work. * When challenges arise, first attempt to resolve issues within your team. If a resolution isn’t possible, escalate to your manager with clear context and potential solutions (if possible). * Involve agency leadership as needed. Workflow Optimization * Collaborate with Client Operations and Account / Project Management to establish and refine design workflows for better efficiency and synergy. * Collaborate to categorize jobs based on complexity and decide if direct involvement is needed. * Proactively and efficiently state which tasks need supervision and which can be delegated. * Eliminate redundant processes when needed. Client & Stakeholder Collaboration * Present creative concepts and design rationale to internal teams and clients. * Adapt creative approaches based on feedback while maintaining high design integrity. * Work closely with Account / Project Management, Editorial, Submission and Creative * Team to ensure client expectations are met. * Provide guidance and educate stakeholders on best design practices.
